During the beginning of my senior
year in Aviation High School, I applied for a position at
a local pharmacy and retail store, Duane Reade. Becoming a cashier and stocks
personnel did not require much training or knowledge, after all I was young and
capable of adapting to the environment. However, as a new employee, I was given
a three months probation period as well as a few online drugs training exams.
Working
for the company for approximately eight months, I decided to leave due to
educational reasons. Right before I turned in my resignation letter, I received
a promotion letter in becoming an assistant manager. Nevertheless, I began to
question myself “Should I continue working instead of obtaining a bachelor’s
degree in aviation?” Finally, I decided to reject the superior interesting
position and attend college. Why? Because I realized that if I truly did
continue to work, I would have the dullest live ever and of course I wanted to
be the first in the family to obtain a bachelor’s degree. In account, I would
not have wanted to have the same doings for five consecutive days.
Furthermore, as a second semester
freshman, I still wonder what life would have been if I took the other path.
Stopping me from thinking about it was a quote, “A job is not a
career.”—Spencer As of a few months back, I stopped by the store and asked if
any position was open for the summer. My old manager told me, “Of course, how
does assistant manager sound?” My mouth dropped and gladly took the offer. Well
there is nothing to regret about now and I am looking forward to the summer
already.
