Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe, an American author, writer, poet, and literary critic was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809 and passed away on October 7, 1849. During his early childhood, his mother passed away shortly after his father abandoned the family. Poe was later raised by John and Frances Allan in Richmond, Virginia and attended the University of Virginia for one semester but left due to money matter. Furthermore, he joined the army but also failed as an officer’s cadet in West Point.

The first most interesting fact about Edgar Allan Poe was that he was enlisted in the army under a false name, Edgar A. Perry. The reason he did that was so he could avoid the tremendous amount of gambling debts as well as being arrested. Second interesting fact was that Poe only got paid nine dollars for “The Raven.” Thirdly he was never officially adopted by the Allan family. Fourth fact would be that, Poe’s foster father was a very wealthy man but after his death, he gave his heritage to his illegitimate instead of Poe. Final interesting fact is that no one really knows why Poe died. He left for Baltimore on September 26 with a fever and a weak pulse according to his fiance. He was found on the on a Baltimore street but wearing someone else’s clothing.
Nevertheless, Edgar Allan Poe was an American Romantic Poet of the nineteenth century. He wrote poems that displayed the dark side of life with dismal tones, macabre themes and vivid imagery.Lastly, Poe has influenced many artists such as: Trent Reznor, Eminem, Beatles, and much more.
